⚠️ YOUTUBE CONTENT ID & SHAZAM, SIRI, ETC. ⚠️
I LOVE it when people sample my music, but here is an issue that I often see and must address.
Do NOT enable YouTube Content ID (or other song recognition features such as Shazam, Siri, etc.) unless YOU ARE CERTAIN that it will not falsely claim my original release. In the event that my original work is claimed by your song, I will have to file a DMCA takedown notice to your distributor which could result in issues such as the removal of your whole album rather than just the single troublesome track. Or it could even result in ALL of your music being removed from distribution if it's not a first time offense.
Here are my tips for you before you release your song:
1) Manipulate the sample enough to avoid detection at least 9/10 times; this usually means doing A LOT more than just changing the pitch or slowing it down.
2) Shazam/Siri your track before releasing it to see if it matches with anything else (test this by picking a bunch of different points in your song that feature the sample.)
Even if you don't plan on enabling any of these features now, I would still make these two checks because you might change your mind in the future.
